The U.S. National Weather Service in Cheyenne confirms an F1 Tornado hit the Morrill/ Mitchell area Thursday afternoon.

The storm had estimated peak winds of 100 miles per hour, and caused significant damage for structures and trees in its path.

Schmidt Sales on Highway 26 suffered a total structural collapse and foundation shift, while a nearby home had partial roof structure failure and roofing material completely removed.

A second tornado was confirmed northwest of Hawk Springs, Wyoming- but due to the rural nature of that tornado, only limited damage to fencing was found, as well as scattered plant debris. Review of video and photo sequences along with radar time-matching indicated that tornado likely began as a landspout, but without any damage of note that tornado was recorded as an EF-U.
