On a gorgeous day in Scottsbluff on Saturday the East beat the West 17-14 at Bearcat Stadium in the 46th Annual West Nebraska All-Star Football Game.

The deciding sequence in the game came late in the third quarter.

The West took their first lead of the game at 14-10 with 2:08 to play in the quarter when Chase County’s Cooper Dillan ran one in from 11 yards out (PAT good), but on the ensuing kickoff it was McCook’s Brett Fraker fielding the kickoff at around the 25 yard line and then scooting down the West sideline, eluding one tackle and staying in bounds for the 75 yard kickoff return for a touchdown (PAT good) to put the East in front to stay, 17-14.

The West would have multiple scoring opportunities down the stretch in the fourth quarter but a fumble in plus territory ended one drive then Eli Coble of Broken Bow stopped another drive with an interception to thwart the West.

Then late in the fourth quarter the West drove the ball inside the five yard line and appeared to have tied the game with a field goal but chose to take the take the points off the board after a running into the kicker flag, and going for it on fourth down Holdrege’s Zac Sundquist came up with a nice stop on Sidney running back Luke Holly to end the drive.

The East would take over under the shadow of their own goal posts and would pick up a couple first downs on the ground to clinch the win.

It was the East’s fifth straight win the series.

The Offensive Game MVP award went to Chadron quarterback Broc Berry and the Defensive Game MVP award went to Rhett McFadden of Sandhills/Thedford.
