There was a flurry of injury crashes Monday morning across the Valley, including one that claimed the life of a 2024 Gering High School graduate.

The Nebraska State Patrol says that 18-year-old James Jackson Jr. of Gering succumbed to injuries as the result of a two-vehicle collision in Gering on Kimball Avenue near 10th Street shortly before 8 a.m.

NSP Spokesman Cody Thomas says the preliminary investigation found a northbound Ford Ranger pickup driven by Jackson was struck from behind by a Ram 2500 pickup driven by 44-year-old Gideon Brunner of rural Gering.

Jackson was pronounced deceased at the scene, and Brunner was taken to Regional West with serious injuries after being ejected from his vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation and the NSP is conducting a full crash reconstruction.
