Facing what was described last month as a deficit of $900,000, the Morrill Schools Board of Education last week decided to approve a reduction in force measure to help close the gap.
According to minutes of a special meeting March 4, the MPS Board approved a resolution recognizing significant financial challenges prompting the need to eliminate some programs and/or positions in the district.
A proposal to eliminate the district’s daycare program was scrapped, but the board did approve elimination of the Licensed Mental Health Practitioner position, as well as one certified and four classified positions on a 6-0 vote.
The meeting also included a discussion to amend the Superintendent’s contract to one year in duration, which will be voted on at the Board’s March 18 meeting.
