August 20th, 2024 | Press Release

With a brand new school year here there a few coaching notes from over at Scottsbluff as announced by Activities Director, Dave Hoxworth, on Monday afternoon.

  • Chad Larson is stepping down as head coach of the girls soccer program after 18 years
  • Cheryl Salazar has been hired on as the head girls wrestling coach

Here is the press release with notes from Mr. Hoxworth on both of these coaching positions at SHS.

Girls Soccer

Long time Head Girls Soccer Coach, Chad Larson has decided to step down from his coaching duties effective immediately.  All of you that have had the opportunity to work with Chad, know what a great person he is.   Chad has done a phenomenal job at developing great relationships with our girl athletes,  however, it is his integrity and perseverance that stands out above everything else.  Coach Larson has always been about doing things the right way and truly leading by example.  As I told the team earlier today,  we have been blessed for 18 years to have Coach Larson leading our program.  Prior to accepting the head job,  Chad was also an assistant with the program.   We thank Coach Larson for the many years he has given to the girls soccer teams.

Girls Wrestling  (we hired this over the summer)

This past summer we hired Cheryl Salazar to be the head coach of our Girls Wrestling program.  Cheryl and Sheena Adams led our middle school program this past year and did an excellent job as we try to build this program and increase our numbers.  Currently, Girls Wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the country and we are excited to continue building on our program this next year.  Coach Salazar has a strong passion for leading young women and pushing them to improve their skills, toughness and overall wrestling knowledge. We are looking forward to the continued growth of our program through building and maintaining a solid youth program in the off season and summer.
