The City of Kimball has given the green light to a proposed multi-family housing project plan tied to Clean Harbors.

Last week, the Kimball City Council approved rezoning two city-owned parcels of land on the northeast corner of 7th and High School Streets to multi-family residential, as well as giving the ok to a plan in which the land would be sold to Clean Harbors Kimball Realty, LLC for development.

Under that plan, the project would include two modular housing units with four single-bedroom dwellings each, and a pair of two-story modular townhomes, with equal numbers of two- and three-bedroom dwellings, which would then be available to the general public for purchase.

City Administrator Annette Brower says construction is anticipated to start sometime in the spring or even sooner depending on the weather, however, the city is also required to make some related utility improvements at that location.

The contract also says if Clean Harbors Kimball Realty fails to construct the improvements after obtaining all building permits or develop the property as represented, they may forfeit the properties back to the city.
