Nebraska’s college football season will kick off at 6 o’clock Thursday (Aug. 29) when the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers and Chadron State Eagles collide in non-conference game in Chadron.

It will be the 73rd game in the schools’ all-time series and the first time they have played a season-opener.  It was made possible when the NCAA ruled in January that teams from different conferences but in close proximity of one another could play an early-season game during what has been labeled 0 Week.

Both teams hope to be improved this fall. The Eagles had a 5-6 record last season while the Lopers fell to 3-8. Both have added numerous transfers to the roster in an effort to regain their winning traditions.

The Thursday night winner will be the first to possess the newly created “Good Life Trophy.” From now on the Eagles and the Lopers are scheduled to play the second game of the season on annual basis.
