Every child deserves to be a star!! At a Main Street Players theater camp, your child is guaranteed a speaking role  – no audition required! Campers learn the basics of theater through acting exercises and games, then help create characters and incorporate them into skits. Each camp ends with a performance for friends and families where they can shine! The emphasis is on learning acting and speaking skills using improvisation techniques.

Improvisational Theater (Improv) is the art of creating characters and skits with only a few suggestions from an audience. It is a great tool for beginning actors to learn the techniques used on stage and hone their acting skills, especially those young actors who are still learning to read. Improv comes from the mind of an actor and we use it in our camps to channel children’s imaginations into stories they can share with the world. Improv focuses on quick and easy character development as well as strong storytelling skills. Improv teaches actors to think on their feet and become comfortable with speaking without rehearsal in public. These skills are useful in everyday life, but especially in school.

The camp is run by Elora Bleisch, who has studied theater at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the  University of Northern Colorado. She has been assisting and running theater camps with Main Street Players for the last ten years, after attending camps herself. Bleisch has returned to Western Nebraska to bring live theater experiences to children in the area.
