Bridgeport Forces Four Turnovers in Win Over Hemingford

HEMINGFORD- The Bridgeport Bulldogs recovered three fumbles and had an interception en route to a, 36-12, victory over the Hemingford Bobcats.

Coming into the night, both teams were undefeated in district play with this matchup possibly being the district championship for D1-10.

Bridgeport struck first with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Nick Weibert to Gage Nein at the 7:16 mark of the first quarter and converted the two-point try to make it, 8-0, early. The Bulldogs added on with a Logan Levick two-yard touchdown run set up by another long Weibert-Nein connection on the previous play to take the, 16-0, lead after the conversion.

Hemingford got their first points in the second quarter on a Jacob Bryner five-yard touchdown run to make it, 16-6, after the conversion failed. That touchdown was set up by a Cody Galles 47-yard run.

That would remain the score until the 3:20 mark in the third quarter when Levick capped off a 70-yard Bridgeport drive with a four-yard scamper into the endzone that made the score 22-6 after a failed conversion.

Hemingford answered back with a 31-yard rushing touchdown by Ryan Ragsdale with 2:38 to go in the third to make it 22-12, as the try failed.

Levick found the endzone one more time, dashing for a 10-yard rushing touchdown to cap off his second three touchdown game of the season with 10:17 left in the game to give Bridgeport the, 30-12, lead after a successful conversion.

Nik Weibert scored the final points of the night on a five-yard touchdown run to make it 36-12 with 3:06 remaining.

Bridgeport was led by Levick’s career high 162 yards rushing on 23 carries for three touchdowns, he also had an interception. Quarterback Nik Weibert was 9/19 for 141 yards and a touchdown and added a rushing touchdown. Nein led the receiving category with four catches for 88 yards and a touchdown.

Galles paved the way for the Bobcats, finishing with 15 carries for 125 yards. Quarterback Jacob Bryner was 3/7 through the air for 56 yards and had 34 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Ragsdale had four carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. Talon Payne caught all three completions for 56 yards receiving.

Bridgeport (5-2) hosts Sutherland (2-5) next Friday at 6 p.m. for the regular season finale. Hemingford (4-2) heads to Perkins County (5-2) for their final game.
