The city of Bridgeport will once again have an dumpsite after it was closed due to some improper disposal activities.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy ordered the dump closed due to a number of issues, including improper disposal of field bean waste, and yard waste recycling.

Mayor Gail Beyer tells KNEB News NDEE officials have been helping with the process since the closure earlier this year.

“They’ve been here about three times and walked through everything, and I was out there for one of them where they explained to us what needed to be done with the beans, so that could be done at a less-costly expense,” said Beyer. “And then, (they) worked with us on what needed to happen with the yard waste, which ended up being actually more trash than yard waste.”

Beyer says the dumpsite will reopen on Wednesday, and drop-offs will be supervised to ensure proper waste disposal processes are followed.
