Binny Canales announces retirement from college coaching

After 30 plus years in the college volleyball coaching profession with the last ten coming at WNCC, Binny Canales has announced he’s retiring from college coaching.

The announcement coming from Canales on a recent post on social media.

“It comes with deep emotion that I am going to end my college coaching career. I have worked as a college coach for over 30 years, with a tremendous list of assistant coaches and hundreds of amazing volleyball athletes!”

Canales came to WNCC for his first year in 2014 and in ten seasons in charge Canales led the Cougars to six Region IX championships, including winning the regional title in each of his first four seasons.

WNCC’s best finish at the National Tournament under Canales came in his second year in 2015 when the Cougars finished 2nd nationally with a record of 42-5.

“I want to thank my wife for all her support, my kids for giving me purpose, all my friends, and teammates for an unbelievable journey with over 750 wins and multiple All-Region and All-Americans (players)”, Canales said in the social media post.

The school will soon name an interim head coach to replace Canales.
