KNEB Sports has confirmed that Billy Engel has officially stepped down as the head men’s basketball coach at Western Nebraska Community College.
Responding via text message this morning, Engel said, “I’ve truly enjoyed my time here and couldn’t imagine coaching anywhere else. It’s just time for me to move on to something else right now.”
Engel had a four year stint as the Cougars head coach and in what turned out to be his final year as head coach, this past season he guided the team to a 24-9 record that included an appearance in the Region IX Tournament championship game.
You can expect Engel’s replacement to be announced sometime in the next few days.
