On Wednesday afternoon at Bayard High School senior Kolby Houchin announced his decision to continue his football career by signing with Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska.

“I had a couple different schools I was looking at, but at the end of the day Concordia was just definitely the right fit. When I went down there I really liked the coaches, they were awesome. Felt like I connected with them a little bit.”

This past season as a senior for the Tigers, Houchin ran for 1,405 yards with 21 touchdowns while also throwing for 944 yards and 15 more TD’s through the air. Defensively he amassed 137 total tackles while adding four sacks.

“They (Concordia) told me they might have me at linebacker or running back. And honestly I love both positions. I’ll go down there and work my butt off. Wherever they put me is where I’m gonna be happy at. I have no preference.”

Houchin was also a standout on the mat having just been named the Western Trails Conference MVP for the wrestling season, he finished with a 3rd place medal in the 175 lb weight class last month.

Houchin says he’s considering a major in biology with a minor in business.

“This means a ton. Since my sophomore year is when I really decided I wanted to play college football”

Bayard’s Kolby Houchin signed with Concordia University on Wednesday to make that dream a reality.
