The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident from last week in which suspected narcotic contraband was discovered inside the jail.
According to public records, night jail staff located a self-seal baggie containing a white crystal substance in a laundry basket located in the jail closet shortly before 9 p.m. March 6, but did not know who it came from.
Sheriff Adam Frerichs tells KNEB News surveillance video was being reviewed to see if it could be determined when the baggie ended up in the basket, and who may have placed it there.
Frerichs says the suspected narcotics were logged into evidence pending development of a suspect or suspects, after which the baggie contents would be field-tested.
He praised jail staff for their diligence in locating the contraband and reporting it immediately.
