87-year-old Charged in Kimball Motel Shooting Back in Court

Court proceedings for the 87-year-old Kimball motel owner accused of shooting a guest have been continued as her attorney’s have requested a competency evaluation.

Leota Kant was arrested on Halloween and faces charges of Attempted Murder and Use of a Firearm to Commit a felony.

NSP investigators say when authorities arrived, they found a male subject with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with non-life-threatening injuries.

District Judge Derek Weimer approved the motion for the completency evaluation, and set an October 1st hearing.

In April her attorneys said they planned to rely on the defense of not responsible by reason of insanity.
