Viola Steele, age 87, of Bayard, died Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard.
Viola Jane (Green) Steele was born July 10, 1935 near Bayard Nebraska to Henry and Alice Green. Viola married Lloyd Steele, the love of her life on April 28, 1952. Viola followed Lloyd to many places as he was a Marine and they lived in North Carolina, Chicago, and California before returning in 1973 to Bayard where they lived the rest of their lives. Viola and Lloyd had three sons, Marvin and Ruben of Bridgeport and Robert of Osceola, Nebraska.
Viola worked as a seamstress and as a beautician as well as wife and mother. She was extremely active in life and enjoyed completely remodeling her home and garden in Bayard many times which became her pride and joy in her later years.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, brothers Ruben and Gerald, and one grandson, Kalen.
Survivors include her sister Louise, three sons, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services are being postponed until later this spring so more family can travel the distance to attend a memorial service for Viola.
