Thayle Ruth (Elrod) Bigley, age 87 years and 2 months, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, died March 13, 2024 at Regional West Medical Center. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and there are no services scheduled at this time.
Thayle was born January 13, 1937 at Oshkosh, Nebraska to Alvin Roosevelt Elrod and Lena Maude Hendren. She attended school in Oshkosh and later received her GED. She married Francis Lee “Doc” Bigley on November 2, 1957 and they lived in various locations, including Kimball; Alliance; California; Sterling, Colorado; and finally, Scottsbluff in 1967. While in Scottsbluff, she did various periods of babysitting for her great-grandchildren, as well as other children in the area. She worked at J.C. Penny’s in downtown Scottsbluff and at Panhandle Co-Op, where she was the head cashier before retiring. She cherished frequent visits with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sister, Noreen (Steve) Noble of Loveland, CO; daughters, Sherri Martella of Horsham, PA, Lanette (Dan) Kerper of Harleysville, PA, Laura (Joseph) Essay of Bayard, NE, and Sanda (Herb) Kateley of Seal Rock, OR; grandchildren, Alex Kerper, Joseph and Miles Essay, Heather Fabian, Susan McCollum, and Natashia Sagmiller; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Lena Elrod; sister, Katha Biggs; husband, Francis “Doc” Bigley; and multiple cousins.
