Susan J. Lofing, 66, of rural Minatare, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024, in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Vine Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Craig Collins officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7pm at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Susan’s honor be made in care of the Methodist Church First Steps daycare program. Susan was born on November 23, 1957 in Scottsbluff Nebraska. She was the daughter of E. Earl (Bud) and Alvina (Gross) Stoddard. Susan attended school in Gering, where she was involved in band, “Harmony” swing choir, and Job’s Daughters. She then attended West Nebraska Community College and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she attained a degree in early childhood development. She attended Chadron State College working toward a teaching degree.

On February 20, 1982 she married her partner in life, Gary Lofing. They established their home on a farm outside of Minatare, Nebraska. They raised two children in that home, Amanda and Nathan. During her life Susan worked as a homemaker, was a preschool teacher, dietary aide, served as election worker, and acted as the Minatare Mutual Canal cashier. She volunteered for various organizations. Her immediate and extended family were the center of her life and she was always there for them.

She loved playing bells. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church bell choir, the Gering First United Methodist Church choir and recently the First Presbyterian Church bell choir. She was a faithful member and a willing substitute when called upon. She helped with the home arts division at the county fair. She excelled at hand sewing and was an active quilter. She was active in the Vine United Methodist Church where she was baptized and raised.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother; Alvina Stoddard; and father-in-law Harvey Lofing.

Survivors include husband Gary Lofing; children Amanda and Nathan Lofing; mother-in-law Della Lofing and father E. Earl Stoddard. Other survivors include sisters Linda Fowler and Sara (Ward) Krichau; sister-in-law Karen (Gary) Koke and brother-in-law Allan Lofing. She will be missed by nieces, nephews, numerous other family members and friends. Her love and care will be a memory for many.
