Steven D. Groshans, age 79, of Dalton, NE passed away at United Health Care Hospital in Greeley, CO on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. A Rosary Service will be held at 9:15 A.M. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dalton, NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 A.M. with Father Tim Stoner officiating. Cremation has been held and Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday, December 4th from 1-6:00 P.M. to leave condolences for the family. Memorials have been suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dalton or the Dalton Fire Department.

Steven Dale Groshans was born May 16, 1944 in Williston, ND. Steve graduated from Sidney Public High School then enlisted in the Navy. He did tours on the Kitty Hawk as a Jet-Aircraft Servicer. He served 4 years and 1 month before returning to Sidney where he worked at Town and Country Grocery Store (now Sonny’s). When a job with Wheatbelt became available for truck driver he applied and was hired. He worked there for 43 years ending his career as Area Foreman in Dalton.
He kept the lights on for Dalton, Gurley, Broadwater, Bridgeport, Oshkosh and part of Big Mac during many, many storms. Steve also trained linemen in his years with Wheatbelt. After retirement Steve and his family became snowbirds spending 12 winters in AZ. Steve was proud of his garage and had two of everything. Everyone knew that if they needed anything for their project, that Steve had it which saved them a trip to Sidney.
Steve was always ready to jump in and help everyone. Steve and Marie also owned the Dalton Market for 10 years and worked there after his regular job, he put in long hours for those years.
Steve is survived by wife Marie, sons Matt and Patrick, three grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, brothers Dave and Dallas, sister Deb, and many nieces and nephews (one of which he encouraged him to become a lineman).
He was preceded in death by his parents, parent-in-laws, daughter, brother, one niece and one nephew.
