Stanley Applegate, 94, Scottsbluff

Stanley Applegate, 94 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Regional West Medical Center with his family by his side.

His funeral service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Craig Collins officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held an hour prior services. Casket will be closed. Stanley was born on April 8, 1928 to Lester and Elsie (Battelle) Applegate in the town of Minatare, Nebraska.

Stanley went to grade school in the Sod house his grandad Applegate built. He attended 9th grade at Liberty School north of Mitchell for 1st semester, then last semester stayed in Scottsbluff with his aunt Alyce.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1952. He returned home and went to Worland, Wyoming to work for his brother Willard in Ford Garage as Secretary and Parts Manager.

In 1954, he moved back home to help on the ranch. Later he worked for a Well Drilling Company for private wells, which took him around a bit. He loved the work.

He met Martha Schance and they were married in May 1956. They lived just north of Lake Minatare by Winters Creek. In 1960, he built a basement on the ranch he bought from his dad and in 2 years had the upstairs built. They lived and raised their family on the ranch.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Martha of 66 years; daughters Sherrie (Jerry) Leistritz, Sharon (Doug) Bauer, Sue (Brian) Looney, Sally (Allan) McCoy and Shirley Kreman; son Joe (Carolyn) Applegate; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
