Roger Dean Fix, 70, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away May 22, 2024, at his home. A memorial service in his honor will be held Thursday, May 30, at 10:30 am at Gering Zion Church with Pastor Tim Hebbert officiating. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. A memorial has been established in his name with funds to be designated at a later date.

Roger was born January 13, 1954, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Scottsbluff Nebraska to Gale Fix and Myrtha (Prewitt) Fix. He attended Scottsbluff High School. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Ranger in Alameda, California, and later courageously served his country in the Vietnam War. At the conclusion of the war, he was honorably discharged and returned to the Nebraska panhandle.

One of his favorite hobbies was racing and rebuilding stockcars with his son Travis. Together they travelled to several states to compete and spent many years making lasting memories. Travis was his pride and joy. When he wasn’t racing with his son, he loved watching NASCAR. Anything related to racing, he enjoyed. After years of racing, Roger and Travis cooperatively began Fix Cattle where the two worked together as partners building the corporation from the ground up. In his downtime he enjoyed watching old western movies. He was a stubborn, hardworking, blue-collar guy who liked his privacy, but always had your back and would give you the shirt off his if you needed it.

Roger was a great outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, cattle, and dogs. He was the “animal whisperer.” For many years, you could find Roger at the COOP deli counter every morning buying chicken gizzards for his dogs. His dogs ate better than most humans. He also had a passion for horses. As a young man he broke horses and was looking forward to riding the family’s horses as they worked cattle. Travis wanted to use a four-wheeler, but they have three horses now. Roger won that debate.

He was loved and respected by many, and we will miss his sarcasm, witty comments, and headstrong personality. Life was always interesting with Roger around, and we feel a void without him with us.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents Gale and Myrtha Fix, brother Danny Fix, and sister-in-law Tanya Fix. He is survived by his son Travis (Marissa) Fix, son Jeremy Fix, sister Shelia (Buzz) Larreau, brother Gaylen (Sharon) Fix, brother Larry Fix, seven grandchildren – including Payt’n, Reed, Sawyer, and Sutton Fix – and numerous nieces and nephews.
