Richard L Sowerwine, Jr, 85 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
A viewing gathering will be Friday, December 8, 2023 from 2-4 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow. A memorial has been established to Panhandle Humane Society. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.geringchapel.com.
Richard was born on March 1, 1938 in Scottsbluff, NE to Richard L Sowerwine, Sr and Mary (Brown) Sowerwine. He received his education at Gering, graduating from Gering High School in 1956.
He married Mary Johns on May 5, 1961. He later married Loretta Deines on June 5, 1973 in Gering.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing. He worked on oil wells, fire protection business, Star Herald and Frontier Airlines for 37 years.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Loretta; son Scott Sowerwine (Laurel) of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Emilia O’Reilley of Boise, ID, Madison and Alyssa Sowerwine of Phoenix, AZ, Kevin Wynne of Kimball, NE, Kyle Wynne of Rapid City, SD and JolyAnn Rutledge of Sidney, NE; sister Sharon (Stewart) Rusch of Scottsbluff; great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and canine companion Mack.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, daughters Rhonda Stander and Robin Rutledge.
