Pablo Alfaro, Sr., 73
October 3, 1949 - May 1, 2023

On May 1st, Pablo Alfaro Sr., 73, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior in Rio Hondo, Texas. He was born to Rafaela Carmona and Gumecindo Alfaro Sr. October 3rd, 1949.

He received his early education in Rio Hondo Public Schools. Pablo met and married the love of his life, Rosa Maria De La Paz on January 30th, 1966, in San Benito, Texas. He worked at The Alfaro’s Garage, John Deere Industries, International Industries, The McCarthy & Sons Farms, and Simpsons Farms as a diesel mechanic.

He retired in 1998 and moved with his wife and daughter, Janie, to Bayard, Nebraska. He took numerous trips visiting relatives in California and Texas. He loved attending church, garage sales, fishing, and BBQs, but his all-time favorite past time was family gatherings. Seeing the whole family together brought him tremendous joy, and they were his greatest love. He also enjoyed watching Western films, especially those starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, which tied into his passion for history. He would often visit museums to learn more.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gumecindo and Rafaela Alfaro; his wife, Rosa Maria Alfaro; his sister, Juana Lopez; his son, Guadalupe Alfaro; a grandson, Richard Angel Alfaro; sons-in-law, Carlos Eduardo Garza, and Vic Dean Bechtold; and granddaughter, Julie Ann Betancourt.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Maricela (Misael) De Leon, San Juanita Bechtold, and Julia (Rod) Alfred; sons, Pablo (Cris) Alfaro Jr. and Israel (Melissa) Alfaro Sr.; eight grandchildren, Pablo and Rosa helped raise: Guadalupe Jr., Alicia, Eric, Christopher, Michael, Rebecca, Abraham, and Juan Santos; his siblings, Gumecindo Alfaro Jr., Andrea Zuniga, Jose (Alma) Alfaro, Juan (Francisca) Alfaro, and Luisa (Vicente) Suarez; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tom Smith officiating. His final resting place will be at West Lawn Cemetery. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.dugankramer.com for the Alfaro family.
