Before graduating, she had begun working at the Triple A office, later Deputy County Clerk.  After her sons were in school, she worked at the Deuel County State Bank for 30 years.

On December 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to Sgt. Kenneth H. Schmid.   After returning from 4 years serving his country, they moved to the family farm where there 2 sons, Lonnie and Jon were born and raised.  They resided on the farm for 50 years until ill health required a move into Chappell.
