Nancy Jo Hanson-Lopez, 74

Nancy Jo Hanson-Lopez, 74
September 1, 1949 - September 27, 2023

Nancy Jo Hanson-Lopez, age 74, was received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on September 27th.

Nancy was born on September 1, 1949 to Joseph and Nancy “Betty” Tando. Her childhood years were spent in Scottsbluff, NE but then moved to California after high school. Nancy married Rigo Lopez and had two children Jason and Alicia. After Rigo’s death (1988) she started nursing school
while raising two teenagers. In 1996 Nancy moved back to Scottsbluff and nursed at Regional West Medical Center. It was in Scottsbluff that she met and married Jim Hanson. Nancy and Jim had almost 10 wonderful years together before his death (2008), but she gained a whole other family and grandkids; all of whom were very important to her. In fact, the promise of another grandchild brought her to Omaha.

Once in Omaha Nancy became an active member of Christ Community Church and with the help of God and others started her most valued work. Nancy felt called by the Lord to create the “Hope After Betrayal” group. This group provided strength and hope to women coping with their life experiences. Many visitors while Nancy was in hospice were inspired to write meaningful notes of how she helped save their lives and marriages. She truly was a beacon of light and life.

Nancy Jo was preceded in death by two husbands and her parents. She is survived by her brother Steve (Kathy) Tando; son Jason Lopez, granddaughter Tatyana; daughter Alicia (BJ) Kurzenberger, grandchildren Blake, Mackenzie Jo and Caleb; Stepchildren Greg (Hoa) Lopez;
Dana (Rick) Latham, grandchildren Andrew (Corinne) and Aaron; Stepsons Jeff (Tami) Hanson, grandchildren Ethan and Ryleigh; Jon (Leslie) Hanson, grandchildren Colton and Wyatt. Nancy was also blessed with loving extended family, lifelong friends and many others who called her “Mom”.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be at Christ Community Church 404 S. 108th Ave in Omaha on Friday, October 13th at 10:30am. All welcome. Please join us in wearing bright colors and/or floral patterns to reflect the flowers in her yard that she loved and cared for.
