Marian was born in a small farmhouse on September 4, 1936, north of Minatare, Nebraska. (The farmhouse is one of the oldest homes in the National Historical Registry). She passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 10:30 am at Calvary Memorial Church with Pastor Gary Hashley officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-5 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. It is respectfully requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Calvary Memorial Church –Missionary Fund at 265 18th St, Gering, NE 69341. Marian was the first born child of William and Amelia (Fox) Britthouer. The family moved to other farms in Scottsbluff, south Morrill, and Torrington, Wyoming.
Marian, as a youth, attended several two-room schoolhouses as a teenager, attended two years at Morrill High School and two years in Torrington High School, graduating in 1955 from Torrington High School.
She married Glen Torrey on June 19, 1955, and to this union, two sons were born, Gregory Kent Torrey and Kurt Milo Torrey. They moved to Nebraska in the 1960’S. At the age of thirty, Marian attended the School of Cosmetology, graduating in 1971. Marian and her sister Phyllis Chipman, purchased the Salon of Style, and as a co-owner, Marian worked there for 33 years.
On July 22, 1983, Marian married Kenneth Dale Hoy, and they resided in Scottsbluff.
Marian is a charter member of Calvary Memorial Church in Gering, NE. Marian knew the Lord Jesus as her Savior.
Survivors include her sister, Phyllis Chipman, nephew Todd (Julie) Chipman & children: J.T., Anna, Sarah, Chesed, and Grace; niece Tami Oliver and her daughter Emily and numerous nieces and nephews; sister in-law Sandy Britthouer and daughter-in-law Dorothy Jennings (Kurt’s life partner).
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Gregory Kent Torrey and Kurt Milo Torrey, husband Kenneth Hoy and brothers William Britthouer and Robert Britthouer.
