Marcella Castaneda, 92, Scottsbluff

Marcella (Rodriguez) Castaneda, age 92 , died peacefully surrounded by her children on July 20, 2023 at her home in Scottsbluff, Ne.  A Rosary Service will be held at Bridgeman’s funeral home on the 25th of July at 10AM and a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery.

Marcella was born on Nov 10, 1930, in Wabash, Indiana to David and Barbara (Zupanic) Rodriguez.  She graduated in 1948 from Scottsbluff High School and married Ralph Castaneda Jr. on the 8th of Nov in the year 1953. To this union seven children were born, and her marriage lasted for 69 loving years until the passing of her husband in 2022.  

Marcella was a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom until their two youngest children attended Roosevelt grade school then becoming the secretary there until her retirement in 1995. After her retirement, Marcella worked part time as a door greeter at Walmart where she used her natural skills as a friend, speaking to others, her compassion, and cordiality, gaining an abundance of friends. 

Marcella was a very loving woman and enjoyed spending time with her sisters Virginia and Isabel sipping on coffee and chatting at McDonalds on a daily basis.  She loved taking care of her grandchildren and loved talking about them.  Marcella was a very loving mother, sister, aunt, and grandma who would give you the shirt off her back if you asked her.  She was a very selfless person who would always say thank you, offer an apology if she thought she was in the wrong, and made everyone feel welcome at her home, always offering a meal and something to drink.  

Besides loving her family and friends, Marcella was a very spiritual person and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Church until she was unable to anymore.  Marcella prayed the Rosary daily all the way up until her death.

Marcella is survived by her children, Santos, Ralph Allen (Vicky), Barbara Darr (Joe), Yolanda, Armand (Gretchen), Reynold (Kelly), and Alex (Kim).  She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.  She is also survived by her younger brother David Rodriguez of Nampa, Idaho.  

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, parents David and Barbara Rodriguez, grandparents John and Helena Zupanic, sisters Virginia Quevedo, and Isabel Sabala.
