Lucretia Winslow Green died Monday, April 17, 2023 at the Mitchell Care Center, where she and lived since 2019, at the age of 108.

She was born October 6, 1914 in Philadelphia, PA to Thomas Green and Lucretia Shoemaker Green. Her mother died when Lucretia was an infant and she was raised by her maternal grandparents until age of 7 at which time her father remarried and the Green family; Thomas, Ethel and Lucretia moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Lucretia graduated from Scottsbluff High School and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Soon after graduation she was employed by Eastern States Refrigeration CO. as one of the three Ice Princesses to demonstrate refrigerators at the New York World’s Fair of 1939. She attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and acting remained very important to Lucretia all of her life. Music was a great love, especially playing the piano and singing.

For a number of years, Lucretia was an elementary school teacher as well as a music teacher in various local schools. She also taught for a year in Wales and England.

Anyone who met Lucretia would agree that she was a one-of-a-kind. She loved the hills around Scottsbluff, animals (especially horses and dogs), music, books, history, friends and life.

Lucretia is survived by her god-daughter Heather Caldwell of Mt Carroll, IL and various cousins.

Many thanks to Angie Mills and the staff of Mitchell Care Center for the excellent care and love Lucretia received.

A memorial service will be held at later date. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com. Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
