Lavonne M. Ohlson, age 96, of Scottsbluff, NE died on March 29, 2024 at the Residency in Scottsbluff, NE. Her graveside service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Bartley Cemetery near Bartley, NE. A time of fellowship will be enjoyed following the service at the Copperrmill in McCook, NE. Memorials may be given to the McCook Community Foundation Fund in care of Bridgman Funeral Home. Bridgman Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with her arrangements.
Lavonne was born in Axtell, NE in 1927 to Stanley & Hannah Carlson. Lovonne attended school in Axtell and later the family moved to Bartley where she graduated from high school in 1945. She married Elburn Ohlson on September 7, 1947. They had two children, Barbara and Douglas.
Lavonne had a lifetime career in the banking industry. She began working at the State Bank of Bartley the day after high school graduation from 1945-1948. She taught in Bartley for one year before returning to banking in Cambridge. She went to work at the First National Bank in McCook in 1962 and retired in 1990, starting as a teller and eventually as a vice president and auditor.
Lavonne belonged to The National Associating of Bank Women, Southwest Nebraska Group National Association of Bank Women, Business and Professional Women, McCook City Planning Commission and McCook College Advisory Board. She belonged to the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Bartley, Dorcas Chapter #144, receiving her 75 year pin in 2021.
Lavonne was willing and grateful to attend the many activities of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed Nebraska Football and playing pinochle with many friends and card clubs.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Elburn; brother Wylan Carlson; nephew Mike Conway; great granddaughter Ellee Ferebee and special family friend Stanley “Bub” Ohlson.
Lavonne is survived by her children Barbara Knapper (William) of Scottsbluff, NE and Doug Ohlson (Keri) of York, NE; grandchildren Celeste Kanpper of Lincoln, NE, Charlie Knapper (Kerry) of Gering, NE , Anna Carreon (Jerry) of Omaha, NE, Matt Friesen (Kelly) of Granby, CO, Andy Ohlson (Calena) of Omaha, NE, Scott Ohlson of Hilton Head, SC, Katie Ferebee (Jake) of Chadron, Cyan Lunzmann (Derek) of York, NE and Connor DeWalt of McCook, NE; nineteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister Phyllis Conway of Lincoln, NE; brother Larry Carlson of Plattsmouth and many nieces and nephews.
