Judith (Judy) Kay (Kelley) Hinze, 83
October 16, 1938 - July 27, 2022

Judith (Judy) Kay (Kelley) Hinze passed away on July 27, 2022 at the age of 83.

She was born on October 16, 1938 in Scottsbluff to Robert L. Kelley and Frances Fox Kelley. She grew up and attended school in Morrill. She received her degree from the Colorado State College in Greeley, Colorado in Home Economics with a minor in Nursery School. She was a member of Delta Zeta and Pi Lambda Theta Sororities.

She met and married Greg Otto Hinze in her last year of college. They married on June 12, 1960 and were married for 63 years. They lived in Akron, Colorado for many years before moving to Scottsbluff in 1981.

Judy believed in early childhood education and providing students with a foundation to grow upon. She began the first preschool in Akron, Colorado and then was instrumental in starting a developmental preschool program in the Scottsbluff school systems.

Spending time with family was important to Judy. She also enjoyed traveling, playing bridge with her bridge clubs, going to exercise classes at the YMCA, and having lunch with her Lunch Bunch lifelong friends from Morrill.

Judy was a creator and demonstrated her love for others by gifting her work. She sewed everything from draperies to clothes and made beautiful quilts. Her baked goods, especially her chocolate sheet cake, banana bread and zucchini bars, were always requested. Those recipes are still being shared.

Judy is survived by her husband Greg; her children; Kurt and Brenda Hinze, Leslie and Chris Kesson, Grant and Angie Hinze; nine grandchildren and two great granddaughters; her siblings; Gary and Patty Kelley, Susan Kelley and Marty Garretson, Bob and Rossell Kelley; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is set for September 3, 2022 at the Scottsbluff First United Methodist Church at 10:30 AM. Memorials in Judy’s honor can be made to the Scottsbluff Public Schools Foundation/Preschool or The Scottsbluff First United Methodist Church.
