JoAnne C. Deines, 86, of Morrill passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, November 16th, 2023. Her memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 4th, 2023, at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Paster Ed Hunzeker officiating. Cremation has taken place. JoAnne was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on July 8th, 1937, to John H. Deines and Clara (Barthuly) Deines. She attended grade school at Sunnyslope in Morrill and attended High School in Mitchell, graduating in 1955. She married Don Simpson in 1956 and to this union three daughters were born. They divorced in 1978 and she married Harlan Deines in 1992. JoAnne became a widow in April of 1994.
Joanne began her career as a homemaker. She accepted a position as a secretary at Cannon Brothers in Mitchell in the early 70’s before accepting her favorite job, that being the Factory Manager’s Clerk for the Great Western/Western Sugar Company in Mitchell. JoAnne worked for the sugar company for 24 years before the Mitchell Factory closed in 1985. She met many lifelong friends and missed them terribly after she retired.
JoAnne enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was working in her yard or walking Fannie Mae, her faithful companion for over 10 years. She loved all kinds and colors of flowers, her favorite being the rose. JoAnne touched many lives with her kindness. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
JoAnne was preceded in death by Don Simpson, Harlan Deines; her parents John and Clara Deines; Brother Tom Joder, as well as sister-in-law Janice Joder.
JoAnne is survived by her daughters Pam (Dave) Davenport, Penny (Greg) Schlotthauer, and Patti (Mike Smith) Simpson-Grentz; grandchildren Justin McMurtry, Jeff (Tiffany) McMurtry, Ryan (Kayla) Schmidt, Eric (Jasmine) Schmidt, Kayla (Keevin) Hardiman, Adam (Hannah) Schlotthauer, Andee Grentz and Edward Grentz; 12 great grandchildren and 2 great -great grandchildren.
