Janice “Sam” Kay Engleman, 73, Scottsbluff

Janice “Sam” Kay Engleman, 73, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at which time Jan will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery next to her parents. Jan was born November 8, 1950, in Scottsbluff to Phillip and Hanna (Stricker) Engleman. Jan attended Scottsbluff Public Schools and graduated in 1969 from Scottsbluff High School. She worked for Pizza Hut for several years and then changed careers to work at Regional West Medical Center. Jan remained there for 34 years until her retirement in 2015.

Jan was an active member of the Eagles for 42 years serving as President both at the Scottsbluff and Bridgeport lodges as well as serving at the State level in many capacities. She was a member of the Scottsbluff First United Methodist Church.

Jan enjoyed playing cards with her friends and having fun. She was an avid Husker football fan. As a person she was independent, but always ready to help others. Jan became her mother’s caregiver and made many visits to her during her stay in assisted living. Jan called Bingo and was loved by the residents at the facility where her mother resided. She made sure everyone was having a good time.

Survivors include her sisters, Shirley (Len) Anderson and Donna (Lance) Belcher of Montgomery,

TX, and Beverly Engleman of Gering, NE; nieces, Teri (Tom) Ritterbush, Kris (Rob) Sornson,

Melissa (Rick Salazar) and Kelly McAlpine all of Scottsbluff; nephew, Josh McAlpine of

Scottsbluff; along with numerous great nieces, great nephews, and many friends. Thank you to

Sharon Brown, Carole Gross and Becky Mora for your friendship and loyalty to Janice.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents, Phillip and Katherine Engleman and Conrad and Charlotte Stricker.
