Gary Allan Kuxhausen, 83, passed away peacefully at home on January 14, 2023, with his family by his side.

A visitation for Gary will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 3:00P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. The funeral service will occur Monday, January 22, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at Central Church of Christ, Gering, Nebraska, with Pastor Lyle Hinebauch officiating and burial at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made out to Central Church of Christ where Gary attended until ill health.

Gary was born February 17, 1940 to Alexander and Amalia (Kammerzell) Kuxhausen in their family farm house in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He attended school in Bridgeport, Nebraska graduating with the Class of 1958. He married Ruby Kuxhasuen on October 4, 1977. To this union was born a daughter, Michele, and he gained two children who he raised as his own, Randy and Kim.

Gary was a tractor mechanic for Dill Implement until its closing. He then worked for Frank Implement until his retirement. Gary was always an outdoors man and loved life on the “Farm”. He and Ruby purchased an acreage outside of town that would become the home of many family adventures. The grandchildren spent much of their summers on the farm. Here, Gary taught his grandchildren and other “city” children how to care for pigs. He was a volunteer sponsor in the Code Valley 4H Club for many years. He loved his pigs. Each year you would find him sitting out in the pig pen playing with the baby pigs. He would be at the county fair watching the grandkids show their pigs and making sure everybody treated his “babies” with care.

The rest of the year you would find Gary outside listening to Husker games and NASCAR races while tending to the work to be done. He loved watching westerns and old game shows on TV. You may also have seen him driving the countryside daily with “his” dog, Makiylah. (It was actually his granddaughter’s dog, but no one had the heart to break Makiyla and his bond). She kept him young.

He loved working on cars and was always willing to help his family learn to repair the basic needs of the cars. He was a handyman around the house from remodeling to Honey Do’s to Kiddie Parade bikes and floats. You could always find him working with his tools. He was a man of many talents.

When Ruby became ill, Gary made sure that he got her to church every week. During this time he rededicated his life to the Lord and was baptized by immersion on April 9, 2015 at Central Church of Christ.

Gary is survived by daughters Michele Kuxhausen, Kimberly Cardwell and son Randy (Kathy) Avolio. Grandchildren Kyle Kuxhausen, Danielle Kuxhausen, Lupe Alfaro, Pricilla Alfaro, Cameron (Dana) Cardwell and Kendra Cardwell, great grandchildren Vanity Alfaro and Graham Cardwell. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard Kuxhausen, Norman Kuxhausen, Alvin Kuxhausen and sister Shirley Bauer, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ruby Kuxhausen, Son-in-law, Greg Cardwell, his parents and brother, Donald Kuxhausen and sister, Helen Schmer.
