Floyd Arthur Gowin, 85, of Mitchell, NE went to the Lord, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Heritage Estates in Gering, NE. His memorial service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 10am at the Mitchell Federated Church with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Mitchell City Cemetery. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Floyd’s honor be made in care of the church or to the Nebraska Children’s Home. Floyd was born on Feb 25, 1938, in Hemingford, NE to his parents Arthur Floyd and Wilda Rowena (Fisher) Gowin. He lived a short time in Kimball, NE then the family moved to Hemingford and Floyd started school there, graduating in 1956 from Hemingford High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Randall in December of 1956. To this union 2 children were born, Lori and Eric.

Floyd entered the Army by volunteer draft in October of 1956 and served for two years. After being discharged he worked on a ranch for a while before beginning work at the US Post Office in Hemingford for the next 13 years as a clerk. He then went to work selling real estate for Arizona City Real Estate for the next year and a half. In 1973 the family moved to Mitchell, NE where he worked for the USPS in Scottsbluff as a postal carrier for the next 13 years, retiring in 1986. After retiring, he sold real estate for ERA Real Estate, was a route salesperson for LaRue Coffee, and drove cars for Lashley/Avila Auto Sales. Floyd and Sharon enjoyed traveling across the country on their Honda Goldwing motorcycle and motorcycle camper, where they rode to 36 of the 50 states in 15 years. They then traded the motorcycle in for an RV and traveled all over and enjoyed many winters in Arizona and Texas. He also loved to go to garage sales and found a lot of treasures. He was a member of the Federated Church in Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sharon; daughter Lori (Todd) Karpen; son Eric (Becky) Gowin all of Mitchell; sister Deloris (Howard) Trussell of Hemingford; grandchildren Brandon (Tahlia) Karpen, Mikaela (Jeff) Winters all of Mitchell, Molly Russell and Spencer Gowin; great grandchildren Lacey Zorn, Grayson Karpen, Lane Karpen, Charolotte Winters, and Freya Karpen all of Mitchell; and nieces Renae Noble and Brenda (Marty) Fritzler of Chadron.

He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Wilda Gowin, two younger sisters Bonnie Reifschneider Traegesser and Joanne Gowin, grandparents Arthur and Mary Fisher and Arthur T. and Nora Gowin, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Walter and Bernice Randall.
