Elmer “Gordon” Strauch, 68, of Mitchell passed from this life into the arms of his Savior on August 23, 2023 at Monument Care Center in Scottsbluff after a brief battle with cancer.
Gordon was born August 27, 1954, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Elmer Strauch and Nadine (Johnson) Strauch. He grew up on the family farm north of Mitchell with his parents, brother, and two sisters. Gordon inherited the love of the land and farming from his father and grandparents. He attended Mitchell schools from kindergarten through his senior year, graduating in 1972. After graduation, he attended technical school in Denver studying auto mechanics. After completing his education, he returned to western Nebraska to farm. Gordon married and had one daughter, Brandi Nichole Strauch. Gordon spent several years managing a ranch in the Sand Hills of Nebraska, north of Mitchell. After that, he returned to the Mitchell area to farm and began working as a seed corn sales agent for Pioneer. He dedicated over 35 years to the company and was one of the top salesmen in the area. Gordon became friends with many customers over the years and continued to custom farm locally. He was employed by Pioneer at the time of his passing. Gordon never met a stranger and was always known to help anyone in need if they were unable to take care of their crops or had any other needs. He never asked for anything in return but friendship. Gordon was a quiet, generous man who worked hard his entire life and found satisfaction in working and a job done right. He was a patriotic man and had deep faith and assurance in salvation through the blood of Jesus.
Gordon was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. He is survived by his daughter Brandi Strauch of North Platte, sister Joanne Cruz of Tulsa, Oklahoma, brother Stuart (Teresa) Strauch of Joshua, Texas, sister Michelle (Marcus) Strauch Wells Fidel of Owasso, Oklahoma, granddaughter Makayla Snyder of Lincoln, Nebraska, grandson Justin Miller of St. Edward, Nebraska, great grandchildren Ki’auna and Javier of Lincoln, Nebraska, niece Hannah Wells and nephew Josh Wells of Collinsville, Oklahoma and nephew Chris Fidel of Owasso, Oklahoma.
A celebration of life will be held at the Morrill, Nebraska American Legion at 1 p.m. September 16th, 2023. His final wish was to have his ashes scattered at Guernsey State Park in Guernsey, Wyoming. This was his favorite area to enjoy the scenery and ride his motorcycle. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Morrill American Legion in his name.
