Dorothy Diffendaffer, 94, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023 at The Residency. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Dorothy was born on May 9, 1929 in Gering, Nebraska to Alex and Mary Minch. She went to various schools through the 8th grade. She then went to work in the potato cellars. Later she worked at West Nebraska Methodist Hospital in the dietary department.
She married Donald Diffendaffer on March 8, 1955 in Gering, Nebraska. They had one child, Pamela Ann. They farmed in Mitchell Valley and Morrill before moving to Gering due to Don’s ill health. After Dorothy was widowed at the age of 37, she went to work at Ideal Laundry. After the birth of her first grandchild, she decided to quit her job and babysit and be a grandma. She went on to babysit her second grandchild, along with a few other special children.
She was a very strong, hard-working, and stubborn woman which got her through several hardships in her lifetime.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela (Tom) Smith; grandchildren, Joshua (Brooke) Smith and Allison (Cameron) Wagner; great grandchildren, Katelynn Dobrinski, Kolten Alecci, Atalissa Smith, Finnley Wagner, and Saylor Wagner; brother, Alan Minch; sisters, Arlene Whelen and Mary Frahm; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; husband Donald in 1967; and brother Eugene Minch.
