Donna Hackman passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Heritage of Bel-Air Nursing Home in Norfolk, NE. She was 93 years old. Visitation & Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023, with Pastor Bill Huelle officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, and a light reception at Calvary Lutheran Church will conclude services. Donna was born June 28, 1930, in Norfolk, NE, to Fritz and Frieda (Mahnke) Micklich. The family soon moved to Scottsbluff where Donna started elementary school and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1948. After graduating, she attended junior college in Scottsbluff for one year followed by one year at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. After college, Donna returned to Scottsbluff where she married William (Bill) Hackman on June 10, 1951.
Donna’s first and favorite job was working at her dad’s bakery as the Dutch Maid Bakery girl. She had a variety of jobs after her husband Bill passed away in 1975. Eventually she settled into the insurance industry for most of her career. She was a long-term, active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff where she demonstrated a servant’s heart. It was there that she shared her musical talents by singing in the choir and playing both the piano and the pipe organ. She was a strong woman of faith.
One of Donna’s favorite activities was playing bridge. She participated in several different bridge groups and always enjoyed her time spent with the “bridge ladies.” She also enjoyed cooking, listening to big band and organ music, and attending community concerts. Most of all, she adored being around friends and family. Donna always had a friendly smile and a sweet, positive disposition that could lift anyone’s spirits.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Fritz and Frieda Micklich; husband Bill; sister Margaret Fitzmorris, and son Chris Hackman.
She is survived by her son Casey (Kristi) Hackman of Delta, CO, and her daughter Lisa (Roger) Echtenkamp of Norfolk, NE, as well as grandsons Marcus, Adam, David, and Josiah.
