Donald Gus Romey, Age 90, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2021, with his two daughters by his side. There will not be a public viewing or funeral per his wishes. He and his wife will be laid to rest together at West Lawn Cemetery during a private family burial at a later date.

Donald was born on April 19, 1931, to Gustave Albert and Julia Olive Amelia (Petersen) Romey in Hot Springs, South Dakota. He attended Victory Hill until the 10th grade, and in January of 1951, he entered the Navy in Denver, Colorado. He served until November of 1954 in the Korean War, being awarded the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Southeast Asia Service Medal. Donald married Frances Joanna Houk on June 28, 1969 in Van Nuys, California. At that point, he was working as an airframe mechanic for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California. He was also a ranch hand for Elbert Nerud Ranch in Minatare, NE; Ann Levi Ranch in Faith, SD; and Kaycee Cattle Co. in Minatare, NE. Over the years, he worked additionally as a maintenance mechanic for Potter Sawmill in Whitewood, SD; Western Valley Packing in Scottsbluff; and Packerland Packing in Scottsbluff. His passion for horses and cattle ranching remained with him throughout his life, and he also enjoyed hunting and telling stories. His family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids, brought him tremendous joy.

Survivors include his children, William John (Sheila) Romey of Natrona, WY; Terresa Joanna (Dave) Romey of Minatare; Buckley Kent (Tina) Romey of Gering; Katrina Carmel (David) Nagel of Lyman; Matthew Eugene (Darilee) Romey of Black Hawk, SD; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Joanna Romey; grandsons, Dylan Donald Buster Peters and Chris Romey; parents, Gustave and Julia Romey; siblings, Kenneth (Florence) Romey, Margaret (Charley) Frailey, Robert (Lola) Romey, Leon Romey, Mildred Riccitelli, Oliver (Hope) Romey, and Maxine Casey; and great grandson, Dustin Darrel Peters Jr.
