On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, Donald “Don” Duane Hilderbrand passed away peacefully at his home in Lyman, Ne at the age of 70 with his loving wife by his side. Cremation was chosen and private graveside services will be held later at Plainview Cemetery, in Maxwell, NE. Memorials may be made in care of the family to be designated later. Don was born in North Platte, NE on December 15, 1952. He attended North Platte High School, graduating in 1971. In 1974, he married Sylvia Yonker in North Platte. Don worked odd jobs before hiring on with Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for 3 years before going to work for Burlington Northern in Alliance. During the 38 years working for BN, he loved to ride his motorcycle to work before retiring in 2012.
Don spent many hours with his family shooting; including muzzle loaders, IPC and Cowboy Action. There were many weekends they could be found at the skating rink. He enjoyed spending time with his extended family boating and fishing. He could always be found with a book in his hands. The world lost a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents and 2 sisters.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia; daughters Stacy (Tim) of Sidney, NE and Dayna (Scott) of Early, IA; Son-in-law Roger of Brule, NE; Grandchildren Tapanga, Kody (Faith), Garret (Maegan), Taylor, Donnie, Cayli, Frankie, and T.J.; great grandson Waylon; parents Don and Joyce of Holdrege, NE; Siblings Terry (Lana) of Lodgepole, NE; Steven (Zelda) of Fairbury, NE; Connie of Holdrege, NE, and Doug of Lincoln, NE, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
