Darrell (Ray) Joy 82 of Avon, IN passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022 at The Greenwood VA Health Center. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 services will follow at Conkle Funeral Home in Avon. Burial with Military Honors
will follow at Danville South Cemetery.
Ray was born on December 16, 1939 in Torrington, WY to Earl and Frances Joy. He attended school in Lyman, NE graduating with the Lyman class of 1957. He went on to serve in The United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged in 1966. Ray worked for United Airlines in California for a spell, until he decided to be a truck driver and drove across the country. He moved to Indiana in the 1970’s and became an officer for the Department of Corrections in Indiana where he retired after 20 years of service.
Ray is survived by his daughter Phyllis Joy of Harlingen, TX, daughter-in-law Stephanie Messer of Avon, granddaughters Dallas (Marcus) Rhodes and grandsons Cash and Willie of Avon, and Deema Joy of Avon. Sisters Deloris (Harold) Schillereff of Scottsbluff, NE, Edna (Paul) Curry of Morrill, NE, and Brother David Joy of Riverton, WY. Sisters-in-Law; Judith Joy of Ogden, UT, Stella Joy of Cheyenne, WY, Dorothy Joy of Scottsbluff, NE, Laura Joy of Northglenn, CO and Jackie Morphew of Indiana. Many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends are also here to remember Ray.
Proceeding Ray in his death are his wife Maureen, his parents Earl and Frances, sons Kenny and Jason, brothers Donald, Jack, Dale, Edwin, and Wesley, Sisters-in-Law Katheryn Joy and Sharon Cassidy. Several other nephews, nieces, and other precious friends and family also preceded him in his passing.
