Connie Jo Mathson, 74
April 26, 1948 - February 10, 2023

Connie Jo Mathson, 74, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by family at Mitchell Care Center on February 10, 2023 after a thirty-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Connie was born on April 26, 1948, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Jewel (Ele) Dinnel-Brownlee and Ray Edgar Dinnel. She was the only daughter with among five siblings. Connie graduated from Morrill High School in 1966. In 1967, she married Gerald Amundsen of Morrill. To this union, three children were born.  While raising her children, she served in a variety of capacities, dabbling in real estate, volunteering at the public schools her kids attended and serving at the Village of Morrill Office.

In 1992, Connie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. After her diagnosis, she assisted in coordinating the annual MS Walk in Scottsbluff to raise awareness and funds for research efforts.  Later, with her children, she created Karaoke For The Cure, a fundraiser that included silent/live auctions in Morrill that raised thousands of dollars for the MS Foundation.  In 1997, Connie married Stanley J Mathson.  He adored her and boldly walked by her side throughout her entire MS battle, which included driving her to countless appointments and assisting her in daily life activities.

Grandma Connie treasured spending time with her children, their spouses, grandchildren and extended family. She was an avid Huskers & Broncos fan, and was always ready to cheer for her favorite teams during football season! Connie loved spending time outdoors in her flower garden and “scooting” around town.

Connie is united in Heaven with her parents that preceded her death, as well her brothers, Bill, Jack, Ron and Don; sister-in-law, Sharon Dinnel Bilstein; brother-in-law, Randy Mathson, and step-daughter, Brandi Mathson.

Connie is lovingly survived by her husband, Stan; children, Dr. Gerald (Dawn) Amundsen, Jodi (John) Harberts, Jon (Deirdre) Amundsen, Sena Mathson; grandchildren, Alyssa, Arik, Aden Amundsen; Lauren (Andrew) White, Logan (Katrina) Soto, Kelsie (Chance) Hammock, Jack Harberts; Riley, Landon, Chloe Amundsen; Dylan (Angel) Mathson, Kane Mathson; great-grandchildren, Alexander Journey, Bennett, Lillianna, Gabriel Mathson; brother-in-law, Gary (Irene Kaufman) Mathson; sisters-in-law, Halene, Sheron, Linda Dinnel, and Linda (John) Burkart; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Celebration Of Life Service on Sat, Feb 18, 2023 at 2 pm at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating, followed by Inurnment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill. A reception will follow in the main conference room at ESU 13, 4215 Avenue I in Scottsbluff. The family asks that you honor Connie at her service by wearing the colors of one of her favorite football teams – Broncos or Huskers.

Cremation has taken place according to her wishes.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations toward Morrill Booster Club or MS Foundation.
