Alonzo P. Mendoza, age 65, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on January 30, 2024, at Sunrise Hospital. Visitation for Alonzo will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering, Nebraska, on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at which point there will be a rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King with Father Mike McDonald officiating. Alonzo was born on August 20, 1958 in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Enrique and Guadalupe (Piña) Mendoza. He received his education in Gering, Nebraska.
He was a talented carpenter and landscaper who loved living in big cities such as Denver, Omaha, and Las Vegas. As the Mendoza Family “Wild Card,” Alonzo lived life to the fullest, always smiling and laughing. He spent his free time remodeling his sibling’s homes and installing sprinklers. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his siblings: Aurora (Albert) Bautista of Levelland, Texas; Armando (Jane) Mendoza of Gering; Margaret (Russell) Rohnke of Scottsbluff; Martha (Daniel) Sabala of Gering; Ernesto (Lori) Mendoza of Scottsbluff; Amy (Dave) Noland of Oshkosh; Anita Mendoza of Gering; Arnold Mendoza of Gering; Andrea Lake of Oshkosh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry Mendoza; sister-in-law, Roberta Mendoza; and brother-in-law, Allen Lake.
