EPHRAIM, Utah – The Western Nebraska Community College soccer teams had a rough go in road contests at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, on Wednesday.

The women’s contest saw No. 16 Snow College score five first-half goals before winning 7-0. In the men’s contest, the two teams battled neck-and-neck in the first half before Snow scored four second-half goals to claim the 5-1 win.

The WNCC women will continue the road trip with a Region IX contest in Rock Springs, Wyoming, when they face Western Wyoming Community College. The men are off since Western Wyoming doesn’t have a men’s soccer team. The men will back in action on September 13 when they host No. 12 Casper College at 3:30 p.m. at Landers Soccer Complex. The women will face Casper at 1 p.m. on the same say.

The men’s contest was a dogfight and it was a evenly contest contest in the opening 45 minutes.

Snow scored first in the 14th minute when Miles McMullin scored to make it 1-0. WNCC kept battling and tied the contest in the 31st minute when Eduardo Oliveira took a pass from Lucas Ovalle and scored to make it 1-1. It was Oliveira’s fourth goal of the young season.

That is where the contest stood at halftime.

The second half was a battle early on. Both teams received yellow cards in the first 25 minutes. WNCC ended up with two red cards and was playing two short. That was when Snow took advantage and scored four times. The first game in the 70th minute on a Luis Pantoja goal followed by a Aidan Moore goal in the 76th minute. Snow added two late goals with five minutes left to play and then with 30 seconds to play for the final.

WNCC had seven shots in the contest to 15 for Snow. Snow won the corner kick battle 5-3. Both teams combined for 33 fouls called in the contest. Tomas Guzman made three saves in net for the Cougars.

The women’s contest saw Snow’s Liv Harding get the hat trick with three goals to claim the win.

Snow started the scoring early just 8:42 into the match when Daisha Wagner scored. Five minutes later, Harding score the first of her three goals. Ali Spencer made it 3-0 in the 19th minutes and then Harding scored her second goal in the 20th minute. Snow made it 5-0 when Mirabel Shellabarger scored.

WNCC played better in the second half, allowing just two goals. The two goals came in the first five minutes when Harding netted her third goal of the match. It was Harding’s sixth goal on the young season. Wagner made it 7-0 with a goal in the 50th minute.

Snow had 34 shots overall to WNCC’s two shots. The Cougars had one good chance in both halves. Millie Selfe had a shot just 15 minutes into the contest that was saved by the Snow goalkeeper.

WNCC’s other shot game in the 62nd minute when Yasmin Urbina had a nice shot that was saved by the goalkeeper.

Dory Jenson had 10 saves in net for the Cougars.
