A rural Mitchell man who spent five years on the lam on drug and weapons charges has finally been sentenced to prison.

Back in December, 45-year-old Shaun Turner was apprehended in Colorado as he evaded local charges after authorities found more than half a pound of methamphetamine as well as 47 guns on the property.

In March, Turner ended up pleading no contest to amended charges of Possession of Meth (10-27 grams) with intent to distribute; Possession of a Short Shotgun; and Possession of a Machine Gun.

Under the plea, the County Attorney’s Office recommend the mandatory minimum three years of prison … but during Monday’s sentencing, District Judge Andrea Miller instead sentenced him to 20-25 years in prison on the meth conviction; with two concurrent sentences for the weapons convictions.

Turner also forfeited his $25,000 cash bond when he initially absconded back in 2019.
