Ogallala Roundup Rodeo nearly doubles payout for contestants

Ogallala Roundup Rodeo nearly doubles payout for contestants
July 26th, 2024 | Rebel Sjeklocha

The community of Ogallala, Nebraska has a rich history rooted in the old west. Every year since 1916, the Ogallala Roundup Rodeo has played host to some of the most talented cowboys and cowgirls from Nebraska and beyond.

This year will be no exception. However, the rodeo board has made efforts to entice even more contestants and fans by increasing the prize money available to contestants.

The rodeo has increased its payout from $600 per event to $1,000 per event. Board member Brody Cleveland says the increase in payout has had a profound impact on the number of entries at this year’s rodeo.

“We’ve had the same added money for many years. We have almost doubled that this year.” Cleveland said. “With that, we have about 60 more entries than normal.”

The rodeo will feature some of the top talents in the Nebraska State Rodeo Association as well as professional rodeo athletes who will be in the geographical area due to Cheyenne Frontier Days.

In addition to increasing its payout, the rodeo will feature more food vendors, youth activities, and the coronation of brand new Ogallala Roundup Rodeo Royalty.
