It’s the home stretch for the legion baseball summer season for area teams and over the weekend there was plenty of action at both the senior and junior levels.

A7 Senior Tournament in Scottsbluff

The WESTCO Zephyrs had their season end on Sunday as they lost at home in a elimination game to Hastings, 10-1, in six innings.

After Hasting turned a 6-4-3 double play to end a Zephyrs scoring threat in the bottom of the fifth inning the took a 3-1 lead and then scored seven runs and closed out the Z’s in six innings.

Moi Panduro started and went five innings allowing three runs (just one was earned) in taking the loss. He struck out two and also walked two.

The lone RBI of the game for WESTCO came from Carter Reisig.

The Zephyrs had just three hits in the game and committed five errors defensively.

WESTCO closes out the season at 21-24.

Sunday Scores

  • Grand Island Home Federal 6, Kearney 4
  • North Platte 4, Hastings 0
  • North Platte 7, Grand Island Home Federal 6
  • Hastings 10, WESTCO Zephyrs 1

There is just one game today at Cleveland Field with Hastings vs. Grand Island Home Federal at 1 pm with the winner advancing to play North Platte in the championship game on Tuesday.

Express closing in on milestone at A7 Juniors Tournament

The WESTCO Express are one win away from securing a berth to the Class A Juniors State Tournament after they won in Hastings on Sunday over Grand Island Dinsdale Auto, 3-2.

The Express are 2-1 at the Area Tournament and they’ll matchup with host, Hastings, tonight in a elimination game.

Top seed Kearney is hosting State so they’ll qualify automatically meaning the second place team will head to State as well and if the Express can win tonight they’ll qualify for the Juniors State Tournament for the first time in program history.

Alliance still alive at Class B Jr’s State Tourney

The Alliance Spartan JR’s won on Friday over Mount Michael, 4-3, in their first round game in Valley at the Class B Juniors State Tournament.

Then yesterday Alliance was shutout by West Point 6-0 in round two.

With the loss Alliance moves into an elimination game today against Lincoln Christian at 3 pm MT.
