Grants available to Nebraska farmers in 2025 to test autonomous grain cart technology

Grants available to Nebraska farmers in 2025 to test autonomous grain cart technology
September 19th, 2024 | Alex Makovicka

This autonomous grain cart technology was recently demoed in a Nebraska cornfield at Husker Harvest Days.

Using an app on an iPad in the combine, the Outrun system by PTx Trimble communicates to the tractor for grain cart operations.

The kit is installed on an existing tractor, and the technology allows an operation to maximize its workforce by allowing the grain cart operator to focus on another task like hauling grain.

Outrun has three main tasks.

  1. Staging cart
  2. Ready to fill
  3. Send to truck

Farmers in Nebraska can test the technology on their operations this 2024 harvest season. In 2025, Nebraska farmers will have the opportunity to apply for grant funding to help offset costs associated with the technology.

The Nebraska PRO-AG Grant for 2024-25 supports investments in cutting-edge connectivity and precision ag technology, including autonomous solutions like the Outrun system. Outrun is eligible under Neb. Rev. Stat. ยง 86-1404(2)(d).
