Two killed, two injured in weekend collision near Thedford

THEDFORD – Two people were killed and two were injured in a head on collision Saturday near Thedford.

According to the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling east on Highway 2 around 12:40 p.m. Saturday when it collided head on with a westbound tractor trailer just east of Thedford.

Two occupants, identified as 43-year-old Justin Sprague of Thedford and 43-year-old Amy McKillip of Beatrice, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. One minor passenger was transported with serious life threatening injuries to Great Plains Health in North Platte and then UNMC. Another other minor passenger was transported with serious but non-life threatening injuries to Great Plains Health and then Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the tractor trailer was assessed by EMS personnel and released at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol.

Accident response was a multi-agency effort involving Thedford Fire & Rescue, Mullen Rescue, the Hooker County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office.
