Three area golfers post top 15 finishes at state

NORTH PLATTE – Three area golfers finished in the top 15 on the leaderboard Wednesday at the Class D state tournament.

Aaron Bartak and Colin Cooksley of Anselmo-Merna and Brady Haake of Sandhills/Thedford all had better scores in the second round than the first.

Bartak’s 5-over 77 gave him a two day total of 156 to tie for seventh place. Haake also broke 80 with a 78 to finish tenth at 158. Cooksley’s total of 161 put him in a tie for 14th.

As a squad Anselmo-Merna was 14 shots better than Tuesday to finish 12th in the team standings. Quinten Myers posted a 99, Adysen Priest shot 103 and Barrett McIntyre finished at 104.

South Loup saw a 35 shot improvement in its team score on day two with all five players shooting under 100. Joey Sallach led the way with an 85, Cache Gracey posted an 86, Harper Johnson scored a 90, Dawson Doggett shot 91 and Haydn Stretesky finished at 99. Doggett had the best 36-hole score for the Bobcats with 183 to tie for 54th.

For Ravenna, Gavin Reisbeck carded a 90 to finish in a tie for 50th with a total of 181. Connor Paitz also shot 90, Noah Schroeder finished at 94, Grady Rasmussen posted a 95 and Robert Gentrup had 97.

Also from the area, Mullen’s Jacob Walker shot 81 on Wednesday to finish tied for 44th with a total of 178. Ethan Weems of Sandhills Valley shot 92 to finish with 182.

Overton claimed the Class D state title while Jake Dane of Sandy Creek was the individual champion.

The Class C tournament played just one round after Tuesday got washed out. Broken Bow freshman Jack White shot 91.
