THEDFORD – A third person has succumbed to injuries from a head on collision March 30 near Thedford.

An obituary from Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice indicates 13-year-old Braylee McKillip of Beatrice died at UNMC following the crash.

Braylee’s mother, 43-year-old Amy McKillip, and 43-year-old Justin Sprague of Thedford were killed when a Jeep Cherokee collided head on with a westbound tractor trailer just east of Thedford.

A source tells KBEAR News that a second teenage passenger underwent surgery for serious injuries and has since been released from the hospital. He is expected to fully recover.

The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office said it appears the driver of the Jeep was likely distracted, causing the vehicle to cross into the wrong lane. The driver of the semi attempted to avoid the vehicle, but the Jeep also changed course just before impact.

The cause of the distraction remains under investigation.
